Day 59 16/11/2014

Yesterday when we were out cycling we passed a shipping agent and thought that now was as good a time as any to have a ruthless review of the contents of our bags.  We both decided to send a number of warmer things home on the basis we won't need them again for a while and can replace locally if need be.  The clothes weighted 6kg, so will hopefully make a difference to how much we're carrying around, and will take c3mths to ship home!  We enjoyed ourselves on the bikes so much yesterday that we decided to borrow them again today and after breakfast headed off over to Cam Nam village, where a lot of the arts and crafts sold in Hoi An are made, and then on to An Hoi peninsular.  The weather was hot and sunny (it was 28 degrees C) so we stopped for refreshments before heading back over the footbridge and then north through paddy fields and what looked like fish farms and ended up back at An Bang beach for lunch and a dip in the sea.  Diane had taken her contact lens case this time and was able to enjoy jumping around in the breakers although spent most of her time trying to keep her bikini on!  The weather must have been rough somewhere as the sea had washed up lots of drift wood, greenery and the odd coconut.  After enjoying a relaxing drink whilst drying out we headed eastward along the coast as far as you can go by road.  There's already a number of large holiday resorts with a huge amount of development going on.  West of where we'd been earlier is described in Lonely Planet as a pristine, glorious broad beach.  Clearly written before the bulldozers moved in to build yet another resort and close the access to the beach.  However it still is a beautiful area. We got back to the hotel just before dusk and reflected on how unusual it was for us to spend any time on a beach (have we been converted?) and even more unusual Simon to go cycling for two consecutive days (although he was still complaining of a sore backside!) In the evening we headed back into town and had dinner at Cargo Club, the sister restaurant to the Morning Glory where we'd eaten at the night before last.  The restaurant has wonderful views over looking the river (which had flooded but you could still get to the restaurant) and we both thoroughly enjoyed our last dinner in Hoi An.
