Melbourne Day 136 1/02/2015
February already! Our flight back to the mainland left at 1.15pm so we headed out for breakfast before getting the airport shuttle. It's surprising how many flights there are at Hobart, given they only go between the mainland and the island (although it's called an international airport!). The weather wasn't anything near as windy as when we landed and we had quite a smooth take off and uneventful flight to Melbourne where we picked up our hire car. Despite best efforts we didn't get an upgrade this time but did get a nice Toyota Corolla to travel around in for the next week. We'd arrange to stay with Bill and Raewyn for a couple of nights who live on the south east of Melbourne at Seaford with their two dogs, Baz and Buffy. It's toll roads nearly all the way there and the c100km journey only took about 45 minutes. Raewyn had cooked a wonderful Sunday lunch of roast lamb, potatoes and vegetables followed by her own homemade apricot shortcake. How lucky were we! We spent the evening catching up and chatting about holiday travels, places we'd been and would like to go to. Both Bill and Raewyn are from New Zealand originally and it was great that they could share some tips and ideas on where to go there as well as for a forthcoming week in Victoria.
