Wanaka Day 171 8/03/2015

We'd arranged to meet up with the Heaths today. We had a leisurely few hours at the campsite before Chris, Emily and Grace very kindly came to pick us up. We went to their apartment for lunch (home made pizzas - yummy!), chatting about our travelling experiences as well as tips on things to do in NZ. We then went out for a picturesque walk through a forest to the headland and then back along the shoreline into the town. We stopped there and we were treated to ice creams from the gelati shop and ate them on the lake beach watching people swimming, sailing and doing something strange on a type of hover board (you had to be there!). It was lovely to see all of them again and a real treat for us to have home cooked food and great company. Emily and Grace had made us cards and bracelets, which we are now proudly wearing, and treated us to Lindt Bunnies. It was really interesting to hear about how they have settled back in after being away travelling for 8 months and it made us both wonder whether we'd cope as well when we're back! However Wanaka is such a beautiful place and hopefully that helped "re-acclimatising". On the way to town we passed a plot (known locally as section) of land that they are thinking of buying to build a new home, which must feel like quite a permanent thing to do. Emily and Grace are bundles of energy and really great fun to be with. Afterwards we said our goodbyes and Chris kindly gave us a lift back to the campsite. We both felt a bit low to be saying farewell but hopefully our paths will cross again at some point in the future (we left an open invitation to visit us anytime in Scotland!).
