Salta Day 240 16/05/2015
We had breakfast at the local cafe, packed our bags and got a taxi to the omnibus station to catch the 1010 bus to Salta, 745km north of Cordoba in northwest Argentina. The journey was expected to take nearly 13 hours so we opted for the fully reclining seats on the lower deck of the bus. We set off just before 1030 heading through the suburbs of Cordoba, reaching Santiago del Estero early afternoon and Tucuman late afternoon. The area is Argentina's most indigenous and the sights and people here show much closer links to the country's Andean neighbours. The landscape was flat, primarily agricultural with some stretches of barren land. We spent the time reading, watching the world go by, dozing, 'enjoying' the onboard food and trying not to be put off by the onboard movies (with no sound when one was in English with Spanish subtitles and then maximum volume when one was in Spanish!) Around 2230 we stopped to change bus which came as a bit of a surprise. From here it was just over 40 minutes to Salta. We jumped into a taxi and drove to Bloomers b&b where we'd booked to stay for four nights. Glad to get off the bus we were however pleased we'd decided to do the journey in one leg and not stop over in Tucuman as there is lots to do in Salta. We checked in just before midnight and headed straight to bed.
