Isla Mujeres Day 347 31/08/2015

We had a leisurely breakfast at the Urban Oasis and then caught up on some admin before packing an checking out just before noon. We were heading back to Isla Mujeres today and got a taxi to Puerto Juarez for the ferry to the island. It was significantly cheaper to go from here than from the dock in the Zona Hotelera. It took 18 minutes to cross the blue sea and then it was a very short walk to our hotel that we'd spotted yesterday. It was probably the shortest journey we've had in all our travels. We checked in and were given lots of information on what to do by the very helpful receptionist. We dropped off our bags and walked the short distance to the main pedestrian street to find a cafe that had apparently had a book exchange (we're both in need of paperbacks for the beach). The cafe had changed hands but luckily still had the book exchange and a couple of books worth reading so we decided we'd come back later and swap our books. We had lunch there and then wandered to the main beach, Playa Norte, refusing to pay the full day rate for a sun lounger given it was gone 3pm so found a spot on the sand. The beach is white crushed coral and the sea here is lovely for swimming, you can touch the bottom all the way out to the buoys and the water is clear and calm. We had a couple of dips before retreating back to the air conditioning of our hotel. In the evening we walked along the shorefront and had dinner at Jax's Place. It was OK, nothing special not least because they were closing tomorrow for their holidays like a number of other places we've seen. We walked back down the main pedestrian street. It was surprising how much quieter the town is in the evening once all the day trippers have returned to the mainland.
