We've only had a few days in Costa Rica but from what we've seen and read about it's certainly somewhere we'd like to come back to and visit more of the country. The wildlife we saw even on our short kayaking trip was wonderful and with one third of the country's land protected it appears to have much more to offer. Add to that the opportunity to hike up volcanos and enjoy the coast of both the Pacific and Caribbean. San Jose is nothing to write home about but it is centrally located and would no doubt make a good hub. It seems to be relatively easy to get around and like Panama distances are relatively short. Whilst the food is similar fare to Panama and Colombia there is enough variety to satisfy the palate. Beer, Imperial is decent and the cost of things is much less than Panama. The people are very friendly and it was nice to be somewhere without lots of military as Costa Rica is the only country in the world without a standing army.
